1972 911S Targa Silver Metallic

1972 911S Targa Silver Metallic

This 1972 Porsche 911S Targa was acquired by the selling dealer in 2019 and was refurbished and modified in 2024, including a repaint and the installation of a twin-plug 3.2L flat-six and a 915 five-speed manual transaxle. The car is finished in silver metallic over black leatherette and houndstooth cloth, and equipment includes SSI heat exchangers, a removable roof panel, a stainless-steel Targa bar, H4 headlights, Euro-spec bumpers, a front spoiler, and 15″ Fuchs alloy wheels. This 911S Targa is now offered with a clean California title.

The car came finished from the factory in Silver Metallic (936) and was repainted in 2024. Features include a removable black roof panel, a stainless-steel Targa bar, a front spoiler, European-specification bumpers, H4 headlights, Euro-style taillights, an oil filler on the right quarter panel, and a driver-side mirror.

The 15″ Fuchs alloy wheels are mounted with 185/70 Vredestein Sprint Classics tires. The car was factory equipped with ventilated disc brakes at all four corners, and it rides on Bilstein shocks. Work during the refurbishment included powder-coating and re-plating suspension components, rebuilding the brake calipers, replacing the brake lines, and installing a carbon-fiber front strut bar and larger-bore brake master cylinder.

The adjustable front seats are upholstered in black leatherette with houndstooth cloth inserts, and interior appointments include RS-style door panels with red stitching, retractable three-point front seatbelts, and rear seats.

The four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation consisting of a 150-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for fuel level, oil level, oil temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 34k miles, approximately 1,500 of which were added by the selling dealer.

The 3.2-liter flat-six was reportedly sourced from a 1984 911 and installed in 2024. The seller states that the engine is fitted with Euro-spec pistons, twin-plug cylinder heads, a Weltmeister ECU chip, a modified 993 distributor, and twin GM HEI ignition controllers.

A 915 five-speed manual transaxle was installed in place of the Sportomatic transmission during the refurbishment, and a lightweight flywheel was also added. SSI heat exchangers and a Dansk muffler have additionally been fitted.
