1956 Porsche 356A 1600 Coupe

1956 Porsche 356A 1600 Coupe

This 1956 Porsche 356 1600 coupe was acquired by the selling dealer in 2017 and subsequently refinished in Aquamarine Blue Metallic over a refreshed red interior. Power is from a modified 1600S flat-four driving the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. Additional equipment includes dual carburetors, chrome 15″ wheels, and green-letter VDO gauges. Service in late 2021 consisted of adjusting the carburetors, cleaning the air filters, replacing the spark plugs, and changing the oil. This 356 is now offered with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, partial records, and a clean California title.

The Reutter bodywork was originally finished in Aquamarine Blue Metallic (5607) and was repainted multiple times by previous owners. In 2018, the car was refinished again by The Royal Collision Centre of Escondido, California. Close-up photos of the exterior are provided in the gallery.

Chrome 15″ ventilated steel wheels wear matching hubcaps and are mounted with 185/65 Uniroyal Rallye tires. Braking is from drums all around.

The seats and door panels have been reupholstered in red vinyl, and the matching carpets are protected by black floor mats. The seller notes that the windshield-washer bag is missing, and stains and wear are visible on the carpet.

The two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of green-letter VDO instrumentation that includes a 6k-rpm tachometer, 120-mph speedometer, and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 36k miles, approximately 500 of which were added by the selling dealer over the past four years. True mileage is unknown.

The 1600S flat-four was rebuilt with 86mm pistons and a lightweight flywheel in May 2019 for a total of $4k, after which the car is said to have been dyno-tuned. Service in late 2021 included adjusting the carburetors, cleaning the air filters, replacing the spark plugs, and changing the oil.
